hi, i'm scott, from London, England. I spent 5 months in south east asia in 2010, covering thailand (3 times in all), malaysia, cambodia, laos, singapore and indonesia. Up until that point i'd always been the least enthusiastic of travellers, mostly going on package holidays and spending the majority of the time in the pool or on a sun lounger, even passing up the opportunity of visiting the pyramids in egypt as it would have meant a couple less days by the pool! Four years ago, however, I finally saw the light and now grab my backpack at any given opportunity having finally opened my eyes to all of the wonders that exist in this world. yes, i've caught the travelling bug!
Since the big trip I've only managed to visit 5 new countries: Germany in 2011, Hungary in 2012, Sri Lanka in 2013, Madagascar in 2014 & Costa Rica this year (2015).I also reverted back to Gran Canaria (sept 2013) & Fuerteventura (March 2014) for a week, seemingly just to confirm that that's not my thing anymore.
Once again, though, I've got itchy feet and am now in the early stages of planning my next trip. Actually, when i say "planning", im yet to actually decide where to go but i need to go in August due to business commitments for the rest of the year. Long term I hope to do at least 1 more long term trip before I finally grow up and stop spending all my spare cash on travelling! So why do I travel? To me, Travelling, for me, represents freedom, education, exploration and adventure. There's also something strangely comforting about not waking up in the same bed every day, never quite knowing exactly where u are and not knowing where the hell you'll be this time tomorrow!
Travelling has brought me many things: the chance to meet a variety of people i wouldn't find just sitting at home; the opportunity to see many beautiful places i had never even heard of; the joys of companionship; the joys that can be found in solitude. Overall travelling has taught me about dreams and following them, about not being afraid anymore of this world, about openness to new experiences, of learning to embrace both the ups and downs of life. As things stand i've only visited 25 countries but intend on increasing that asap.
