Richard Crawford is the owner and Director of the Crawford Academy of Languages. He has many years of business and teaching experience. He began teaching English to foreign businessmen at the age of seventeen in a year he spent in Germany before going up to Oxford University. His clients have included Italian cabinet ministers, Italian sports car company directors, German bankers and Mexican farmers. He was a Director of Studies for OISE English School in England, and did the same job for Berlitz Istanbul.
He was a prize winning graduate from Oxford University, trained as a teacher in London, did his post graduate work in the French Department at Bristol University, and also studied accountancy in the City of London. He is fluent in five languages.
He worked for some time in the state and private education sector in England, being a manager of four different faculties at various times and also working in the senior management of a famous boy’s school. He also taught accountancy to adults, and designed many courses on business and management both for adult and at high school students . In the 1990s he launched his own translation and foreign language company, and ran it successfully for some years before being headhunted back into full time education.
He came to Istanbul in 2009, essentially to study Turkish and Farsi, with a view to exploring the languages of the Indian subcontinent, but instead met and fell in love with his wife, , and now has a one year old son. He is a great fan of Turkey and all things Turkish, and plans to apply for citizenship.
