Jean-Bernard is a Paris-based freelance writer and photographer who specialises in Africa, France, Turkey, the Indian Ocean, the Caribbean and the Pacific. He loves adventure, remote places, islands, outdoors, archaeological sites and food. His insatiable wanderlust has taken him to 114 countries across six continents, and it shows no sign of waning. It has inspired lots of articles and photos for travel magazines and some 70 Lonely Planet guidebooks, both in English and in French.
One of this favourite continents is Africa, which he has travelled the breadth and length of for more two decades now and has been thoroughly enlightened by 24 of its amazing countries. As a diving instructor, he has also clocked up numerous trips to the South Pacific (including 14 trips to French Polynesia, his 'second home') and the Indian Ocean, where he dived extensively. He also completed innumerable trips to all French regions and is a passionate ambassador of his own country. In 2014 he presented a five-episode series on French TV, named ‘France’s Most Beautiful Region’, for which he criss-crossed France for five months with a TV crew, searching for the best travel experiences in the country. Since 2016, he's also anchored a travel feature on a French TV programme in partnership with Lonely Planet. Part of his photographic work is available via Getty Images.
