Husband Mike and I are teachers (he's a math teacher, I'm an autism specialist) with a few months before retirement. We spent a month the summer of '03 in Belize and Guatemala with our 3 kids, first trip to CA since several visits to Guatemala in the 80's (middle child is native of Guat, joined us through adoption). In 04-05 our kids lived in Australia, Panama, and The Netherlands on overseas study and community service trips and son Isaac has since studied, volunteered, lived, and/or worked in Honduras, Guatemala, Cuba, Malawi, Kenya, and England where he's currently in grad school. Our daughter has travel fever and is lucky to be married to someone who helps her sustain that habit. *** Every summer starting in 2005 I’ve split a month or so between a Spanish immersion program (usually with a group in tow) and vacation time with Mike. I’d love to explore other Central and South American countries but we’ve become stuck on our favorites: Guatemala, Honduras, and Belize. Checked out Mexico for a month before heading to Guatemala in June 2010, though, and headed back to the Yucatán for a week after Christmas. 2011: Guatemala/Honduras, 2012: Guatemala/Belize, 2013: Wonderful 2 weeks over Semana Santa in Guatemala, summer trip to UK and The Netherlands, 2014: Belize in March, Honduras/Guatemala in June, a month in Guatemala, mainly on Lake Atitlán where we're having a little home built. Happy trails!
