i have lived in the rocky mountains of bc, canada since 1973 in a self built log home. it was always my desire to be free from a regular job, and that meant having enough land to building materials and to raise my own food. in 1986, with four children aged 5 to 10 my then husband and i set out to fiji to live in the villages for almost a year. the idea was to spend some time with my children since the lifestyle we chose was so time consumptive. what happened was that we all got bit by the travel bug.
two years later we had saved enough money to take the family to asia. for 6 months we traveled in nepal, india and sri lanka. the following year we spent 6 months in thailand and malaysia. and a couple of years after that did 6 months in central america.
when my children grew up and our marriage broke, i contiinued to travel in central america with my adolescent children. in this century i have traveled alone in the carribean, ecuador, colombia, and SE asia.
i continue to live on the land in the rockies,as does my now friendly x husband, and two of my sons as well as 8 of my 10 grandchildren. my oldest son is a musician and as well as supporting himself by his music, he has begun a bio diesel business using recycled grease from the local restaurants. we also host a three day music festival on our land in late august, which draws a couple of thousand people and a whole lot of wonderful musicians from around the world.
presently i am in costa rica housesitting for a few months. after this assignment, i intend to go by land and sea to colombia. i was there in the times of trouble and loved it and always wanted to return.
