I went on my first overseas holiday at age 49 with my 3 older sisters. We "did" the South Island New Zealand in 2 weeks, started in Auckland then coach down to Wellington and ferry crossing to Picton where we picked up the car. We laughed solidly for 2 weeks, what better holiday can you get?! You may ask what was so funny, just simple things like buying smokes from the "dairy" and confusing "lemming season" with "lambing season". I guess you have to be an Aussie! Anyway, 2 years later I fell in love with my Aussie Kiwi (citizenship this year) and have been back to NZ 3 times. We went to California for our second honeymoon, hubby drove from LA up to San Francisco, over to Las Vegas, down to San Diego and back to Los Angeles. Did a little day trip to Tijuana and had a blast! Stopped off in Fiji for 3 days on the way home. We did all of this in 3 weeks, I have read a lot on Thorn Tree poopooing the country in a snapshot but I love it! When we want to relax we go to Phuket and pretend we are wealthy. The only thing I hate is seeing tourists just like me haggling over a couple hundred baht while the poor vendor could be selling to someone less greedy. I think to enjoy Thailand you must stay away from the "nightlife" and the $25 glass of Coke a Cola "shows" that feature Australian native birds. I disagree with my brother in law, we did not need to see it! So, our next holiday is to Western Europe and Sweden. I can't wait to get my camera out clicking. I am very amateur but my photos are fabulous despite not knowing shutter speeds, framing etc. My latest test is trying to learn some French Italian and Swedish. I don't need to learn Swedish however when I visited my late husbands brother 5 years ago in Sweden, my niece was determined to teach me Swedish but all I can remember is snagel!
