While I have trouble convincing people that I am not actually as young as I seem, I really am 50 years old. I am an American guy that was not adequately addressing his wanderlust, so at 48 I sold my minority ownership in a small company, landed a civilian job with the US Army and moved to Germany.
With a BA in Education, I taught for only two years, then went to work as a child and youth Program Director for the YMCA and eventually became an Executive Director of a YMCA camp in Northern MN. I left youth work to get more experience in the corporate world, so I contracted the management of non-profit professional and trade associations for several years. As I did not fit age and income profiles to emigrate, nor had the business contacts to land a corporate job in Europe, I went the military route and I am now back in youth and child work.
I like to be active (skiing, biking, SCUBA - I REALLY want to get into canyoning, etc.), but I've let myself go since I have come to Germany, so I am in the process of turning that around.
Having grown up in Iowa and spent most of my adult life in Minnesota, I am happy to be living in Europe. I joined this forum in the hope of find others of similar interest and ethic so I can get on with exploring the world.
I am Christian, but do no proselytize or judge other for their religious choices , single by choice (never was the marrying kind) and pretty personable. Being somewhat outgoing, I can be, but don't have a need to be, the center of attention.
When it comes to other people, I am pretty open to most people, as long as they are not overly loud and aggressive, or just plain "living in the ozone". Suffice it to say, I am pretty much a middle-of-the- road kind of guy but allow it to be a fairly wide road.
I have traveled a number of times in the UK and in Europe on my own, but enjoying traveling with other more. I'm really interested in exploring Europe and anywhere else that is not the USA.
