We are an Australian family with two kids 10 and 11 years old, living in Melbourne, Victoria.
Before we had kids, we did a lot of backpacker travel both separately and together through Europe, the Middle East, South-east Asia, India, Central and South America between 1985 and 1998, including a 15 month trip traveling overland from Texas to Patagonia, and then through Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Turkey in 1993/94.
Our travel interests have tended to revolve around history/culture, wilderness and nature, food and markets, and opportunities to connect with local people.
We are keen bushwalkers and skiers and before kids did a fair bit of wilderness hiking and ski-touring. Since the kids came along we have done quite a few self-guided driving/camping trips to many of the iconic natural areas in Australia such as Uluru/Central Australia, Kakadu NP, North Qld etc, as well as lots of camping, hiking and skiing trips within our home state of Victoria. We've had one overseas trip with the kids - to Nepal in 2013, and we're currently planning a trip to Central America in 2016.
