An avid sailor, backpacker, swimmer, climber, and general do-anything kind of guy, I'm looking to sail across the Pacific. I hope one day to own my own boat and circumnavigate the world, but for the moment, my sights are set at learning to navigate and crew a boat in the open ocean to the best of my ability. I'm looking to crew/cook for/support a boat headed to SE Asia/Oceania from anywhere in the U.S., Mexico, or Canada soon. My ultimate goal is to meet a friend in the Philippines by August 25, where we've been planning to travel for 8 years now. Beyond that, I would be excited about any and all routes/experiences between now and then. However, It's not necessary that I find a boat going all the way. I would love to island-hop to the Philippines crewing different boats from anywhere as far out as French Polynesia.
I'm super laid back; the non-smoker who hangs out with the smokers, the guy who will jump in with two feet first, the nomad who'll change course whenever opportunity shows its smile, the guy who'd just as soon race to the top of a mountain in a rainstorm and back as read a book or play music in the sun. I've worked as a chef, a freelance jazz musician, a basic maintenance/repair guy, an editor, an Emergency Medical Technician, a carpenter, I and have a wide variety of other skills to offer.
As a medic and a responsible human being, I put safety first in EVERYTHING. My sailing experience is 6 months in 3-meter racing FJs and 3 days on an 1800s-style 3-masted ship. I know the majority of boat terminology as well as a multitude of sailing/climbing knots. Most importantly, I am very quick to learn and I work to earn my passage.
I hope to build a friendship and serve whatever function I can best fill. Please feel free to contact me for more information. Smooth sailing and safe travels!
